We help keep track of the players for the Miami Dolphins at Tampa Bay Buccaneers. While this is just a drill, it signals Ramirez’s promise, which the Bucs may not want to risk putting on the waiver wire at the end of the preseason. Game 2 of the NFL Preseason still features plenty of players you may not easily recognize playing much of the game. At the combine, Ramirez recorded a 6.95-second 3-cone time, a drill that is most predictive of future success as an edge rusher. The one factor outside of preseason performance that could sway the Bucs to keep Ramirez on the active roster is his athleticism. While fellow rookie YaYa Diaby is likely to make the roster as a third-round pick, Ramirez will have to earn his spot, likely by beating out Gill. Sixth-round picks don’t enjoy the kind of status that higher-drafted picks do and are in as much danger of being cut as an undrafted rookie. It’s almost ironic that he now must compete with Gill for an active roster spot in Tampa Bay. Like Cam Gill, Ramirez is a small school prospect who dominated his college competition with outstanding athleticism, notching 12 sacks in 2022 at Eastern Michigan. Sixth-round draft pick OLB Jose Ramirez had the unfortunate luck of joining the deepest position on the Bucs’ roster. It may come down to Gill and Ramirez for the final spot. Diaby has the benefit of third-round draft status. With Shaq Barrett, Joe Tryon-Shoyinka and Anthony Nelson all but guaranteed roster spots, Gill faces stiff competition in rookies YaYa Diaby and Jose Ramirez (more on him in a moment). It’s good enough that they may even keep five linebackers, but six would be a stretch. The Bucs have no position more stacked with promising developmental talent than at outside linebacker. He is back to dominating the preseason, recording 1.5 sacks against the Steelers last week. The time has come for the promise of Gill’s talent to become reality. He saw limited action in 2021 and missed all of 2022 with a Lisfranc injury after an impressive preseason game against the Dolphins. The small school prospect was eventually elevated to the regular season roster and even recorded half a sack during Super Bowl LV. Outside linebacker Cam Gill joined the Bucs in 2020 as an undrafted rookie out of Wagner.
